Question
I'd like users to be able to select values from a list for a column in my unstructured table. Can I add dropdown options to my unstructured table column?
Environment
Notebook
Answer
Selectors can be used in unstructured tables. These are essentially dropdowns that are configured per-entry.
How to Use
Create an unstructured table in a notebook entry.
Select the column where you'd like to insert the selector by clicking on the header of that column. Go to the settings 'gear' icon at the top of the unstructured table and click 'Selectors'.
In the 'Manage Selectors' modal that pops up, click 'Create A New Selector First'. Give your Selector a name and options. Options can be typed out or pasted from a spreadsheet or the 'Dropdown Settings' page of an existing Benchling Dropdown (in Feature Settings --> Dropdowns), as long as there is one option per row. Save your Selector.
Create additional Selectors as needed by clicking 'New Selector' in the top left corner of the 'Manage Selectors' modal and adding a name and options, being sure to save each selector when it is ready.
- When ready to use your Selectors, close the 'Manage Selectors' modal. In the remaining 'Set Selectors' modal, choose a selector for your column.
To set additional selectors, right click the appropriate column header, go to settings 'gear' icon, click 'Selectors' and choose your Selector from the dropdown menu
Fill out the table using the selectors.
