What happened

Benchling identified and resolved an issue where updates made to Study metadata fields on existing Studies were not saved. Although users received a saved completed confirmation message and saw the new values displayed in the UI, these changes were not visible to other users or after refreshing the page. This issue affected a limited number of users during the impacted time and has since been fully resolved.

What is the impact

During the affected window (starting October 14 2025 at 5:47 PM EDT and ending October 17, 2025 at 7:50 PM EDT), edits to Study metadata fields were not retained. Users will need to review their Studies and re-enter any intended updates to ensure data reflects the correct information.

Who is impacted

Benchling has proactively notified customers who may have been affected. If your organization received this notification and would like help identifying which Studies to review, please contact support@benchling.com.

What to do if impacted

Benchling recommends:

  1. Reviewing any Studies edited between October 14 and 17, 2025 where there was an attempt to update metadata fields.
  2. Re-entering missing metadata field updates as needed.
  3. Contacting Benchling Support if you would like us to provide a list of potentially impacted Studies.

The list of potentially impacted Studies was generated based on “Save” actions during the affected period and may include Studies where no metadata was changed.

Resolution

Benchling has confirmed that Study field updates now save successfully. Additional validation steps and safeguards have been put in place to prevent similar issues in future releases.
