How do I pre-fill table columns with formulas in notebook templates?

Issue

I want to pre-fill my tables in my notebook templates with formulas. In that way, when I create an entry from that template and I fill out my tables, some columns will be auto computed with the formulas that I already set up.

However, after I fill out the first row with the formulas in the template, create an entry from template, and then add more rows to the table in the entry, the formulas do not get applied to the newly added rows.

Environment

Notebook, Template, Structured tables

Cause

You would have to lock the column in the template in order to preserve the pre-filled formulas.

Resolution steps

1. In your template, navigate to your structured table of interest where you want to pre-fill with formulas.

2. Pre-fill the column(s) with formulas for the first row.

3. Right-click into the pre-filled column header and click "Lock column".

Now, when you create an entry from this template and add more rows to this table in the entry, the formula will be applied to all newly added rows.

* Please note that if you are looking to have different formulas per row / custom values for some rows for the same column, this will not be possible. The same formula from the first row will be applied to the new rows and they will not be editable since the column is locked.
