Why are my reads not aligning in sequential order anymore?

Issue

Read outputs for sequence alignments have changed and suddenly look "scattered out-of-order"

Now:

Environment

Molecular Biology Multisequence Alignments

Cause

Previously, Benchling sorted alignment rows by "position" by default (sort by the first non-gap base). We recently changed this behavior to sort by name initially

Resolution steps

Change to sort by "position". Users can adjust this when viewing the alignment with the "sort by" dropdown in the menu, and it will save the order for that particular alignment, but all new alignments will be sorted by name initially.
