Issue

After exporting entries from Benchling and trying to unzip the compressed files, the device returns one of these errors:

  • "Windows cannot complete extraction. The destination path is too long. Rename the Compressed (zipped) Folder and try again"
  • "An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file...Error 0x80010135"

Environment

Devices running Windows

Cause

Windows limits path names to 260 characters, preventing it from from unzipping files that would result in a file name longer than 260 characters.

Resolution steps

Try one or both of these solutions:

  • In Benchling, change the file and folder names to be shorter
  • Choose a directory closer to the root level when downloading the file to shorten the path name
