Issue

After importing a .gb DNA sequence, the Benchling sequence's name is not the same as the name of the imported file

Environment

Molecular Biology application - All versions and systems

Cause

When Genbank files are imported into Benchling, the file name is determined by the locus name data element in the LOCUS field of the Genbank file itself. The name is not determined by the name of the file in the local computer's file system.

To learn more about the LOCUS and other fields, review this GenBank sample record.

Resolution Steps

Open the Genbank file in a text editor and update the LOCUS field's locus name.
