Benchling Notebook is format agnostic for files, meaning many (if not all) types of files can be attached to a notebook. Behavior and functionalities associated with the files are format dependent and related to the user disposability of the third party tool used to edit the content of the file.
What attachments are allowed?
Microsoft Office attachments (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) all can be attached to a Notebook entry on Benchling. Zip files and PDFs can be attached as well.
Image files such as .jpg or .png can be attached to a Benchling Notebook entry.
Sequence files such as Genbank files (.gb) are also functional on Benchling.
Note that Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents must be less than 2 gigabytes.
Attach files to Benchling
Attach files into a Benchling Notebook entry by dragging and dropping into an entry. You can also click Insert and then Attachment to select a file from your computer to upload, or directly copy-paste into a Benchling Notebook entry.
Note: Benchling's Maximum Per-File Size Limit is 2GB
We allow previewing inside of Benchling for certain file types (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF, image and text files). Please reach out to Benchling Customer Experience to enable this on your platform.
Note that any file attached to a Notebook entry is uploaded and stored in Benchling. These files can be downloaded, altered and re-uploaded to make changes.
