Why does project structure matter?

Projects are the highest level of organization in Benching. Projects contain notebook entries, entities, and can be subdivided into folders.

Projects dictate:

  • how and where data is saved

  • who can access data

Projects will streamline data management for your team, so we recommend carefully designing your project structure when you start using Benchling. Users who've been granted admin permissions can create new folders for your organization.

To set your lab or team up for success on Benchling, we recommend using one of the following frameworks to design your organization's project structure:

Structured by group or function

Use this framework if you have specialized groups to which entries and data should be tied.

Structured by target

Use this framework if you want to organize your organization's data based on specific targets you're studying.

Structured by program or long-term goal

Use this framework if you want to organize your organization's data based on specific targets you're studying.
