The Inventory application in Benchling allows you to organize samples from your Registry into locations and containers in your Inventory. Containers (such as cryovials or wells) can be inserted into boxes or plates and can be assigned to any location (Rack, Freezer, Room, etc.). The inventory hierarchy should match the physical inventory, allowing users to quickly and easily locate or store samples.
Configure Inventory Location Schemas
1. Navigate to the "Registry Settings" page by clicking on the gearbox icon in the Inventory menu.
2. Select the Location Schema from the left side of the Registry Settings menu.
3. The inventory hierarchy should match the physical inventory spaces, resulting from nested Location schemas. Examples include: Building, Room, Fridge, Freezer, Shelf, Drawer, Rack, etc.
Add metadata fields to inventory schemas by clicking the blue + next to Location fields.
Create the inventory hierarchy
After the Inventory Location schemas have been set up for your organization, you can configure your inventory from the "Registry Settings" page. Refer to Create Locations in the Inventory for details and examples.
