When viewing a sequence in Benchling, highlight any section of DNA by clicking and dragging your mouse over that section of DNA. The bottom status bar will populate with information about that sequence.

In particular, view the following properties:

  • Bases, or the length of the entire sequence including parts that are not highlighted

  • Start base

  • End base

  • Length of the highlighted section

  • Melting temperature (Tm)

  • GC content

Edit and personalize your sequence view

There are a variety of ways to customize your sequence viewing experience in Benchling.

  • Toggle on or off the split workspace by clicking Split Workspace on the bottom right corner.

  • You can also drag the tabs of the plasmid map around in an order that you prefer.

View the features of your sequence

Click on the gear symbol on the upper right corner to toggle on and off different features of the plasmid map.

View as a single strand

To view the sequence map as a single strand, click the gear icon on the top right of the sequence map (not the plasmid map), and check off “Complement.”

Change the topology

Change the topology of a plasmid from circular to linear by clicking the Information button on the right side panel. Then change Topology from Circular to Linear and click Update Information.
