Entities can be registered individually or in bulk. This article will detail how to register individual entities.

Create a DNA sequence entity

To upload a DNA/RNA sequence file

  1. Open a project.
  2. Click “+” and hover over DNA/RNA sequence. Click on New DNA/RNA sequence and upload files. Drop in your sequence file.
  3. Toggle to the Metadata Tab and set schema to the appropriate entity schema.
  4. Fill in values for each field on the Metadata tab.
  5. For fields that have been configured as Part Links, select Autofill to link any Part links to your plasmid map. Identified parts will show up as links.

Note: the steps above can be followed for AA sequences as well.

Register a DNA/RNA sequence entity

Once all the required fields have been filled in, click the blue Register button at the top of the metadata page. This will open a window indicating that you are moving an item into the registry. Click the blue Register button on this window to complete registration.

Note: There is not currently a way to require sequence data be input with registration. However, if your team would like to enforce bases upon registration, you can leverage a required long text metadata field for the sequence to be input.

In the Register modal, you may see few options for generating your ID.

  • Generate new registry IDs: user defined entity names

  • Generate registry IDs based on entity names: entity names are user defined / Registry IDs are based on entity name

  • Generate new registry IDs and replace name with registry ID: entity names are defined as the Registry ID

  • Generate new registry IDs, rename according to name template, and keep old name as alias: entity names are defined by the naming template, and keep user defined names as alias

  • Generate new registry IDs, and replace name according to name template: entity names are defined by naming template, and will replace user defined entity name

Depending on the configuration for the schema, you will either be able choose from one of the above options or be limited to only one pre-designated option.

Create and register a single custom entity

  1. Open a project.
  2. Click “+” and hover over Entity from schema. Click on the schema you would like to create a new entity for. This will open a window where you can fill in the relevant metadata fields.
  3. Click the blue Create button to create the new entity.
  4. On the Metadata tab, click the blue Register button and move the entity to the registry.

Note: Creating and registering a single entity can also be done from global create (blue plus in the navigation bar). The only difference here is that you will need to specify a project.

Create and register a single child from the parent entity

  1. Open the parent entity.
  2. Click on the tab with the name of the child entity schema.
  3. Click the blue "+" next to Entity. The parent entity will automatically be filled in.
  4. Fill in the rest of the metadata fields and then click the blue Register button.
