HELM notation is the foundation for tracking modified oligonucleotides in Benchling. HELM can be mapped to to other syntaxes, enabling us to support custom syntaxes like IDT via computed fields. Custom syntaxes and the associated computed fields require Benchling support to facilitate enablement. To discuss Benchling support for custom notation, contact your Benchling representative or support@benchling.com.

After mapping the custom syntax tokens to your HELM monomer library, the custom notation computed fields can be viewed by opening the entity and clicking the Metadata tab. The HELM, IDT, and/or custom notation that corresponds to the sequence displays in the Schema section.

These notations are dynamic, meaning as you edit and save the nucleotides in your sequence, the HELM and IDT notation update accordingly.
