Welcome to the ninth volume of our 2021 product release notes! We’ve been working hard to bring you performance improvements that add value to your work. Read on to learn about the product enhancements and bug fixes released in September 2021.

Molecular Biology

Benchling’s Molecular Biology is a cutting edge in silico design tool that supports the latest scientific workflows.

Allow for an empty phosphate monomer in the last nucleotide position of modified oligos

Users can now have an empty phosphate monomer at the 3' terminal nucleotide. Ribose and base are still required.

Insights

Insights enables users to query, visualize, and share high quality, structured data that resides in Benchling.

IC50 chart type

Users can now display IC50 calculations in Insights using a scatterplot regression called Logistic under the Regression Line drop-down menu. The chart populates IC50, slope, min, max, and R^2 values.

Heatmap chart type

Users can now display data in Insights using heatmap charts. The chart renders a grid labeling the X and Y indexes and cells ranging from white to blue based on each cell’s value relative to the others in the chart.

Blob links as images

Blob links for images will now display as images in Insights queries.

Developer Platform

Our developer platform is fundamental to centralizing and standardizing all your R&D data. Benchling’s APIs and Events are built to match the flexibility and speed of modern life science R&D.

New API endpoint to list organism-specific codon usage tables

Users can now list codon usage tables for a variety of organisms.

New API endpoints for codon optimization and back translation

Users can now create codon-optimized DNA sequences and back translate AA sequences using two new API endpoints.

Add entityType field to entity responses, to allow users to distinguish between entity types

Users can now distinguish between entity types (AA sequence, mixture, oligo, etc.) when an entity is returned by an API call.

Academic Product

New experimental signup flow

We’re currently running an experimental release of the new signup flow, which includes a few additional fields based on the users background, with the following treatment groups:

  • A: old/existing flow

  • B: new flow + email verification

  • C: new flow - email verification

Bug Fixes

The following bugs were fixed in this release:

Molecular Biology

  • The modified oligo legend was displaying scroll bars

Application Platform

  • Users could view the option to create projects in organizations they had access to, but did not have access to create projects in. When the user selected that organization, they received and error message preventing them from creating the project as expected. The fix prevented those organizations from appearing on the list at all, to improve the user experience.

Developer Platform

  • An error that occurred when users attempted base edits to Overlapping Parts
