For a detailed overview of what parts are, please reference: Use parts to design modular sequences

It’s easy to import DNA sequences into Benchling and automatically find and link registered parts, examples of parts may include full chains, promoter regions and spacer sequences.

Import DNA sequences

Import your sequences by navigating to the Create tab (+) on the left navigation bar > DNA Sequences > Import DNA Sequences. Here you can drag and drop your sequence files to upload them.

Auto-Fill parts on a DNA sequence

In the newly opened sequence map, select the Metadata tab, from here you can assign a schema using the schema dropdown menu. All of the fields associated with the schema will be applied to the DNA sequence.

To automatically link registered parts against these schema fields, click on Auto Fill Parts and select Parts. Clicking on any of the linked parts will take you to a sequence view of that part.

Auto-Fill parts in bulk

You can also auto-fill parts in bulk via the Expanded Registry View.

Click into the Registry tab on the left hand side navigation bar and click the right arrow to expand the view. Here you can select your DNA sequences using the check boxes next to the ID column. Navigate into the More tab on the top right hand side of the screen > Analyze > Auto-Fill Part Fields.
