New Registration Table with Unified Add Samples

A new version of the Benchling Registration table is now available. This table provides an intuitive interface with options to edit table rows after registration and add samples from worklists and structured tables within Notebook entries. Check out our help article for a complete outline of the performance and new features available on our new Registration tables.

Note: Historical Registration tables can coexist alongside the new version of Registration tables.

Lab Automation Run Schema Fields support adding from Worklists

Add entities, containers, and plates in bulk to lab automation run schemas by taking advantage of the new worklist option. Use this option to easily move samples and plates for your lab automation workflows in Benchling.

Exporting a Result table will no longer display entities as “Unavailable”

In some cases, exports of Result tables had shown entities as “unavailable” in the Sample ID column. This has been updated so Result table exports should now display entity names and other information as it appears in the platform.

Updates to the “Edit other data” Access Policy for sending a Notebook Entry for review

Actions such as editing Notebook entry names, contents, and submitting entries for review can now be granted to authors or non-authors via the “Edit other data” Access Policy. For example, if the “Edit other data” policy is set to “Granted”, this allows non-authors of Notebook entries to send Notebook entries for review. If the the “Edit other data” policy is set to “Granted to author”, only the author(s) of the Notebook entry can send an entry for review. Review your settings for this Access Policy in Feature settings > Access Policies.

Visit our help article on Access Policies for guidance on configuring granular permissions.

Updates to Entry Links in Batch Registration Tables

In some cases, entry links that were multi-select did not allow searching or inserting of Notebook entries, however, this has been updated to allow multi-select entry links to function seamlessly in batch registration tables.

Auto-Fill Translation Feature

Linking amino acid sequences to DNA sequence schemas is now easily possible using the new Auto-fill Translation feature. Similar in function to the existing Auto-Fill Parts feature, the Auto-Fill Translations feature discovers linkable amino acid sequences from the Registry and add links and translations for them on associated DNA sequences. Add Translation link fields to DNA sequence schemas to see the Auto-fill Translation option.

Timestamp Information for Container Check in / check out now available via API

Timestamps for when a container was checked out, checked in, or reserved can now be surfaced in the API. Visit for more details.

Surface Containable Type in the Warehouse and API

The Containable type setting found on Registry schemas can now be surfaced in the warehouse and API. This setting specifies whether entities of the schema can be contained directly, via a batch, or not at all. This value is read-only. Visit for more details.
