In Benchling, notes are stored in individual notebook entries. You can use entries to record findings, track changes, register and transfer entities, and more.

Tip: To stay organized, write one entry per experiment and store related entries within projects or folders.

Create blank entries

To create a blank entry:

  1. Click the + icon in the left-side menu, then click Entry.

  2. Enter the entry title and select a folder to save it in.

  3. Click Create.

Create entries from templates

To create an entry from a template:

  1. Click the + icon in the left-side menu.

  2. Hover over Entry and select Entry from template.

  3. In the pop-up window, select the template, title the entry, and select a folder to save it to. The first entry date defaults to the day it was created, but you can select a different date using the calendar under Initial date.

  4. Click Create.

Tip: You can create entries directly in projects and folders by clicking the + icon above the search bar while in a project or folder.
