We want to make it easier for tenant admins to stay current on what's changing in Benchling. Here are some September updates you might have missed.
September Updates
[Benchling AI] Build analyses and Automation templates with Benchling AI
Describe an analysis once in natural language and let Benchling AI build it, from instrument data ingestion through analysis, registration, and results creation. The same instructions can produce a reusable Automation template, so each run executes the same logic consistently instead of being rebuilt step by step. AI does the building, and the template does the repeatable running. Available to users with access to both Benchling AI and Automation, with AI-assisted building using credits at the standard variable rate.
[Notebook] Create plate records in bulk from the Notebook
Where scientists once built plate records one at a time, they can now create tens or hundreds in a single operation from a reusable plate design. Plate designs capture well roles, volumes, concentration layers, and metadata, and can be saved as templates to reuse the same layout across notebook entries. Plates created from a design can be reviewed visually in the Notebook and put in Inventory individually or in bulk once they need to be stored and tracked, with contents and concentration data carrying over.
[Notebook] Upload from Google Drive
Google Drive files can now be attached to any document, including entries and templates, through the attachment menu. Google Workspace files (Docs, Sheets, and Slides) are attached as PDF, Excel, or PowerPoint snapshots, respectively.
To enable this feature, navigate to Tenant Admin Console → Settings → Notebook.
[Admin Controls] Set up SAML SSO independently
Tenant admins can set up and manage their SAML single sign-on configuration directly in the Tenant Admin Console. The setup flow walks admins through entering their identity provider details, then lets them test the connection with a shareable link before going live. Previously this required filing a support ticket and coordinating configuration changes back and forth.
[In Vivo] In Vivo user accessible audit logs
Finding a specific change in a study no longer means exporting the full audit log to CSV and filtering it by hand. Benchling In Vivo now includes a dedicated Audit Log page where you can search and filter the study’s audit log. You can also view filtered history for individual animals, measurements, observations, samples, and doses, so you can go straight to the record you’re checking.
[In Vivo] Study cages table and saved views
Working across many cages at once is easier with a new table view on the Study Cages page, shown alongside the card view. The table supports bulk edit, delete, and reorder. Views can be saved with column visibility and widths, filters, and sorting, and updated as needs change. Starring a view makes it a personal default for that table type across In Vivo, and admins can publish a saved view so the whole team starts from the same view.
