Study completion date can be selected when marking a study complete [2026.8.IV.8]
Users marking an In Vivo study as complete can now pick the completion date instead of always recording today's date. The study overview also shows a banner naming who completed the study and when, so the completion record is visible without opening settings.
Publish saved views for all team members [2026.8.IV.9]
Published table views let admins push a saved view out to their whole team, so teammates automatically get it instead of having to build their own version from scratch.
Autosize data table columns to fit contents [2026.8.IV.10]
DataTable columns now support a fit-to-content action. Scientists can use the column header menu to widen the column to fit its longest value and header, and the setting persists team-wide until reset.
Registry and Inventory
The Registry and Inventory combine to form an extremely powerful solution for life sciences R&D samples. The Registry can be used to model and log any biological entities while the Inventory provides an interactive digital window into the physical storage system of your lab.
All inventory objects now have a Relevant Items tab [2026.8.RI.1]
Containers, plates, boxes, and locations all now have a Relevant Items tab, similar to the tab that already exists on entities. When a user opens any of these inventory objects and navigates to the relevant items tab, they see items that reference the inventory object in a single filterable and searchable table.
Workflows
Workflows are a sequence of processes that are performed to answer a research question or synthesize new material.
Task schema access policies [2026.8.W.1]
This release introduces access policies for workflow task schemas. Previously task schemas did not support access policies, so ORG members always inherited CREATE access and ORG admins always inherited ADMIN access. This release gives ORG admins the capability to introduce READ, NONE access policies for task schemas such that only users who need access to certain task schemas can get access to those schemas. Read more about this feature here.
This feature is not on by default, it is enabled by admins.

Automation template variables gain multi-item improvements [2026.8.BA.5]
Multi-item variables in Create table from template variables now enforce a non-empty list when both Required and Allow multiple values are checked, raise the per-variable value limit from 100 to 5,000, and offer a new Join by index option that aligns variable values by row instead of taking the cross-product. Existing steps continue to run with their originally configured behavior.
Containers can now be used as sources when filling plate records [2026.8.BA.6]
Plate records can now use a container as a source for a well's contents in plate record designs. Empty containers raise a warning in the Sources list, and the scratch plate record stores references to the resolved contents rather than the container id.
Plate records are now supported in entry templates [2026.8.BA.7]
Plate record designs are now supported in entry templates. When a user creates an entry template from an entry, its scratch plate designs are copied over without the original plate records, so the template starts clean. Creating an entry from that template copies the designs into the new entry. Designs in a template are design-only the "Fill plates" button is disabled and plate records can only be created once the design is in an entry.
Audit log coverage for Plate Records [2026.8.BA.8]
Plate record activity is now captured in the audit log. Logged events include creating and editing a scratch plate design in a notebook entry, creating a plate design template, creating plate records from an existing design or alongside a new design, and putting a scratch plate record into inventory.
Improved notifications when putting plate records in inventory [2026.8.BA.9]
Putting scratch plates in inventory now shows a single progress notification that carries through from submission to completion, rather than separate informational and result notifications. The notification updates in place with the final success or error details and dismisses itself after the standard duration
Bulk plate record creation from the notebook [2026.8.BA.10]
Benchling's new lightweight plate record tool enables users to annotate and fill plate records in bulk, to choose which records should be tracked in Inventory, and to save their plate designs as reusable templates.
Plate records can be hidden from a notebook entry view [2026.8.BA.11]
Notebook entry authors can now hide plate records from an entry so if many plates are created they do not clutter the view.
Access Management
Access management is the way customers control who is able to access which resources, and includes things like project permissions, access policies, and admin roles.
Self-Serve SAML GA [2026.8.AM.1]
Tenant admins can now configure SAML single sign-on directly from the tenant admin console. The built-in test configuration flow prevents admins from potential lockout and misconfiguration scenarios.
This feature is not on by default, it is enabled by admins.
Application Core

Benchling Tenant Admins can now enable the MCP on their tenant via the Tenant Admin Console.
Plate Record API object references replace flat ID fields [2026.8.DP.2]
Scratch plate types on the V3 REST API now expose nested object references instead of bare IDs, so you can select the subfields you need in one request. ScratchPlate.plateSchemaId and ScratchPlateLayer.dataFrameId are replaced by plateSchema and dataFrame. PutScratchPlateInInventoryResult gains plate, and TransferScratchPlatesResult gains createdPlates; the existing plateId, plateName, and createdPlateIds fields still return the same values but are deprecated and will be removed after the deprecation window. New integrations should select plate { name } and createdPlates { id } instead. These types are in beta.

Study association batch-create idempotency now documented [2026.8.DP.7]
The V3 API reference now documents that the study item association batch-create endpoint silently deduplicates repeated pairs of study id and item id within a single request. Integrations that repeat associations across a batch can rely on the documented contract.
Container V3 APIs promoted to stable [2026.8.DP.8]
Container and Container Schema V3 API have been promoted to stable
V3 API renames schema antibody link field to protein link [2026.8.DP.9]
When creating or updating schema fields in the V3 API, the field type ANTIBODY_LINK is now PROTEIN_LINK. This aligns with the naming of this field link type throughout the rest of the product.
Schema field definition name always resolves to display name in V3 API [2026.8.DP.10]
Schema field definition name always resolves to display name in V3 API
V3 API: Remove templateMethodVersionId property from procedure run plan condition update endpoint [2026.8.DP.11]
The version for each method in a procedure is driven by the procedure version. This endpoint allowed callers to make their method versions out of sync with the parent procedure, which is never desirable. Now method versions are always set automatically based on the procedure version.

IMGT hinge exon numbering added [2026.8.PB.8]
Antibody annotation now supports IMGT per-hinge-exon numbering on immunoglobulin constant regions, along with one-sided cysteine annotations. Numbering no longer force-fits hinge residues onto the Eu scheme.
Document lineage view added [2026.8.PB.9]
Sequence lineage now loads the complete downstream tree and collapses branches more predictably as it expands. Users can follow how a sequence was derived across every processing step.
Remove columns dialog now sorts column names [2026.8.PB.10]
The Remove column(s) dialog now lists columns in alphabetical order and shows a taller list, so columns are easier to find in wide documents.
Folder tree context menu now easier to navigate [2026.8.PB.11]
The folder tree right-click menu now groups related actions and uses clearer copy labels, so actions such as copying a link are easier to find.
Phylogenetic tree bulk legend controls added [2026.8.PB.12]
Users can now hide empty legends or show all legends at once in the phylogenetic tree assay data sidebar, and the choice is kept when the tree is saved.

Output name and location fields added to job dialogs [2026.8.PB.16]
Users can now set the output document name and destination folder directly in analysis job dialogs, which come pre-filled with the previous defaults.
Fold-change comparison selection added to Compare [2026.8.PB.17]
Users can now choose which sample pairs generate fold-change columns in the Compare job dialog, instead of every combination being computed. This keeps comparison results focused and reduces job size.
Sample and cluster visibility toggles added to comparison charts [2026.8.PB.18]
