bioRxiv AI Connector now available [2026.7.AI.1]
An AI connector for bioRxiv is now available in the Connectors directory. Developers can now connect Benchling to the bioRxiv MCP server to search and retrieve bioRxiv preprint records from developer tooling.
This feature is not on by default, it is enabled by admins.
clinicaltrial.gov AI Connector now available [2026.7.AI.2]
An AI connector for clinicaltrial.gov is now available in the Connectors directory. Developers can now connect Benchling to the ClinicalTrials.gov MCP server to search and retrieve clinical trial records from developer tooling.
This feature is not on by default, it is enabled by admins.
Vibe Coding is now available in Chat [2026.7.AI.3]
Benchling Chat users can now create custom UIs by prompting the agent to generate a dashboard or UI with data that the agent has access to in the Benchling tenant. Read more about this feature in this blog post here.

Customers may now sign up for access to Lilly TuneLab's property prediction models. Request more information and access here.

Agent Modes are now available [2026.7.AI.7]
Chat can now be used in Default or Full Actions mode. Default mode includes most pre-existing behaviors supported in Chat. Full Actions mode supports many new write capabilities to better support workflow automation. Read more about this feature here.
Replaced Analyze data option from Notebook entries with Ask [2026.7.AI.8]
The Analyze data option has been removed and Ask has replaced it. Users now see a single Ask button on entries instead of a dropdown with multiple options.
Edit Contents button on the Entry converted to Ask if user does not have access to Full Actions mode [2026.7.AI.9]
When the current user lacks access to Full Actions mode, the Edit Contents button on Notebook entries now switches to Ask. To directly edit notebook entries, the user will need to ask their tenant admin for access to Full Actions mode.
Chat entry target removed [2026.7.AI.10]
Chats opened from Edit Contents no longer show the editing-target chip or the explainer about reverting entry contents. Chats can now edit multiple objects in Benchling; previously they were limited to one entry.
AI chat plus menu adds Mode section [2026.7.AI.11]
The AI chat plus menu now includes a Mode section with Default and Full Actions options. When the current user lacks access to Full Actions mode, it appears grayed out with a lock icon.
Chat Full Actions mode now configurable under AI Settings [2026.7.AI.12]
Tenant admins can now control enablement of Full Actions mode from AI Settings under AI Access > Chat.
Prompts will pre-fill the Chat box when creating a new entry from global create or a new template in template collections [2026.7.AI.13]
Chat now opens with a starter prompt when launched from the global create and template collection entry points. The prefilled prompt gives users a clear jumping-off point for entry creation and template creation flows.
Generate Report button has been removed from Studies [2026.7.AI.14]
The Generate Report button on Benchling Studies has been deprecated and removed. Users can continue to build reports for their Benchling Studies using Chat.
Slack app requires Benchling AI Chat to be enabled [2026.7.AI.15]
The tenant administration console now requires Benchling AI Chat to be enabled before the Slack app toggle can be turned on, so users no longer set up the Slack app only to be blocked on responses due to Chat being disabled.
Benchling AI for Slack messages reflect native read status on Slack [2026.7.AI.16]
Messages posted by the Benchling AI Slack app now show the native Slack unread status when a new response is available. Users can tell at a glance which threads contain fresh answers without opening each conversation.
Benchling AI for Slack renders images inline in threads [2026.7.AI.17]
Chat responses from the Benchling Assistant in Slack now render images and chart images inline through the unified Assistant API.
Redesigned AI Chat side panel and settings experience [2026.7.AI.18]
The AI Chat side panel has been redesigned with a new layout and modal experience for managing AI Chat settings.
Property Prediction Models can be forwarded to Datasets [2026.7.AI.19]
This feature allows the outputs of Property Prediction Batches in Model Hub to be exported to Datasets.
Inductive Bio and AlphaFlow-PDB models now available [2026.7.AI.20]
Inductive Bio LogD, Inductive Bio pKa, and AlphaFlow-PDB models are now published to the Model Hub app catalog.
Agent modes are now supported in Agent configuration [2026.7.AI.21]
Agent setup now supports selecting Default or Full Actions mode when creating a Benchling Agent. Default mode agents will ask for approval prior to taking actions. Full Actions agents will generate outputs and automatically share them. Optionally, a folder can be specified in Full Actions mode to limit where the agent can create or edit Benchling objects.
[Beta] Refreshed example Benchling agents [2026.7.AI.22]
New example Benchling agents support comparing notebook entries and weekly project summaries. The previous example has been replaced with more representative starting points for common analysis tasks.

Single inputs and merged cells in tables show nested out of date and unsubmitted indicators [2026.7.N.2]
If a row other than the first row in a merged cell or single input has an unsubmitted or out-of-date value, the top cell in the merge or single input will now show a cell indicator. Using resync will no longer break up this merged cell or single input if formulas and unsubmitted values are preserved.
REVERSECOMPLEMENT formula for notebook table sequences [2026.7.N.3]
Notebook tables now support a REVERSECOMPLEMENT function that returns the reverse complement of a DNA or RNA sequence, including IUPAC ambiguity codes, preserving gaps and case, and detecting RNA automatically.
Add data modifications for deleting Structured tables [2026.7.N.4]
Users are now prompted to fill out a Data Modification reason for change when deleting a Structured Table that contains submitted data.
Use semicolons as name separators in cells [2026.7.N.5]
When representing multiple Benchling objects in a cell as text, semicolons can be used to separate entity names instead of only commas.
Allow reordering columns in Mixture prep ingredients table [2026.7.N.6]
Columns in the Mixture prep ingredients table can now be reordered.
Faster structured table editing in notebook documents [2026.7.N.7]
Editing a structured table in a notebook entry, template, or sub-template no longer triggers cascading re-renders across other tables in the same document. Documents that contain many structured tables now respond faster to each keystroke while editing.
Warn before retracting active reviews on removal [2026.7.N.8]
Removing a review process from a template now warns users before it retracts any active reviews tied to that process. The safeguard prevents accidental loss of in-progress reviews and gives reviewers a chance to complete or reassign their work first.
v3 API - Add versionMetadata field to UnstructuredTable [2026.7.N.9]
Deprecates the versionId property on the UnstructuredTable object for a new versionMetadata object
Simplified DocumentPart API surface in the V3 REST API [2026.7.N.10]
The standalone GET and listing endpoints for individual document parts have been removed from the beta V3 REST API.

Review processes can be applied to template collections, preventing publishing until a template or subtemplate has been approved.

In Search, find AA sequences by annotation metadata. In particular, users can filter sequences by annotation name and annotation residues.
Species dropdown in Biologics accepts customer-configured values [2026.7.MB.2]
In Biologics, users can now add options to the Species dropdown (rather than only using an enforced list). The dropdown accepts and preserves additional values while still displaying the system-required options.
Biologics
Benchling Biologics gives antibody R&D teams a shared, structured foundation to design, register, and characterize proteins, connecting the wet and dry lab without switching tools or losing context.
Protein registration always creates chain-to-domain part links for existing chain entities [2026.7.BIO.1]
Biologics protein registration now always adds chain-to-domain part links, even when the input chain is missing part links or links to unregistered domains, ensuring the domains are not only part of the protein(s) but also represented on the chain entities. If part links already exist they will not be duplicated, but additional part links may be added in addition to the existing part links.
Biologics Protein registration now supports importing custom metadata fields (text, number, boolean) [2026.7.BIO.2]
Users can now import custom metadata fields (text, number, boolean) during protein registration, directly in the spreadsheet flow.
Protein registration spreadsheet upload accepts registry-id reference fields [2026.7.BIO.3]
The spreadsheet upload flow for protein registration now accepts additional LINK fields containing ids of other registered entities.
Protein tag, cleavage site, and more flexible linker support in Biologics [2026.7.BIO.4]
This feature allows customers to add extra bases/residues to the C- and N-termini of chains and between certain domains. Optional "element" domains are now included in all formats, which can contain any bases/residues. Within "elements," customers can model linkers, cleavage sites, protein tags, or a combination thereof.
Annotations on amino acid parts are hoisted from domains to chains in protein entities [2026.7.BIO.5]
When protein entities in Biologics are enabled, chains and domains are linked together via amino acid parts. Any annotations on domains are surfaced on the chain in which they are amino acid part-linked.
Small Molecule
The molecule entity in Registry helps users model and interact with chemical compounds throughout the platform, enabling users to draw, visualize, store, and search chemical structures.
MoleculeSchema V3 API is now stable [2026.7.SM.1]
MoleculeSchema endpoint has been promoted from beta to stable in the V3 API, giving full read and write support.
[Beta] Reaction table Lot column now scoped to the row's Compound [2026.7.SM.2]
The "Lot" column in the reaction table is now scoped to the Compound already selected in that row. Users no longer need to sift through irrelevant lots that don't match the parent Compound when selecting a lot.

Observation and sample labels support up to 20 characters [2026.7.IV.2]
The maximum length allowed for observation and sample labels has been increased from 10 to 20 characters across sample and observation create and edit flows.
Keyboard-first workflow for recording observations [2026.7.IV.3]
Users can now record observations in the observation workflow primarily from the keyboard, with default focus on the first field, the current selection retained on severity and grade fields, and Enter advancing through the form to save.
Editing a data table cell locks position until submit [2026.7.IV.4]
The data table editor now keeps the active row in place while a cell is being edited so that scrolling no longer discards unsaved changes.
Units dropdowns in treatments dosing methods support search [2026.7.IV.5]
Users can now type to search within the units dropdowns on treatment dosing method fields.
Treatments can be archived and unarchived in the team treatment glossary [2026.7.IV.6]
Team treatment glossary entries can now be archived and unarchived instead of deleted, preserving historical treatment records and dose associations. The treatments table shows an active or archived status column, supports bulk archive actions and a status filter, and hides archived treatments from the new-treatment dropdown.
Configure the tracking day base for a study [2026.7.IV.7]
Studies can now be configured to start tracking on Day -1, Day 0, or Day 1, instead of always assuming Day 0. Graphs, analysis, exports, and task scheduling all use the configured day as the reference point, so studies with a staggered baseline (for example, measurements the day before dosing) no longer need manual day corrections.
Bulk assignment of unique tag IDs from assign identifiers [2026.7.IV.8]
Users can now record unique tag IDs in bulk through the assign identifiers table, with real-time validation that prevents duplicate tags within a study.
Async exports and export history [2026.7.IV.9]
Exports across In Vivo now run in the background instead of blocking on a direct download, so large exports no longer fail due to timeouts. Every export sends an in app notification and an email with a download link once it's ready. A new Export History page lets users search, filter, and re-download past exports.
Disease and treatment metadata validation for In Vivo [2026.7.IV.10]
Admins can now enforce metadata on diseases and treatments during study design.
Locked dose calculation inputs on treatments [2026.7.IV.11]
Study designers can now mark dose calculation input fields as locked when creating a treatment. Locked calculation inputs cannot be edited by technicians on the dosing form in Workflow, giving confidence that the default calculation inputs from the treatment setup have not been changed in error. The lock setting is retained through study cloning and treatment duplication.
View full study and item filtered audit logs in the UI [2026.7.IV.12]
A new Study Audit Log page is now available, providing detailed filtering on audit logs. Users can filter by animal, observation, sample, and dose, as well as access filtered audit logs for observations directly from the animal profile.
Registry and Inventory
The Registry and Inventory combine to form an extremely powerful solution for life sciences R&D samples. The Registry can be used to model and log any biological entities while the Inventory provides an interactive digital window into the physical storage system of your lab.
Containers now have a Relevant Items tab [2026.7.RI.1]
Containers now have a Relevant Items tab, similar to the tab that already exists on entities. When a user opens a container and navigates to the relevant items tab, they see items that reference the container in a single filterable and searchable table.

ContainerSchema V3 read APIs promoted from beta to stable.
Box promoted to stable in the V3 API [2026.7.RI.3]
The Box and BoxSchema types are now stable in the Benchling V3 API.
Custom entity V3 API promoted to stable [2026.7.RI.4]
The V3 API endpoints for custom entities have been promoted from beta to stable. API consumers building integrations can now rely on the custom entity read and write contract without expecting further breaking changes.
Workflows
Workflows are a sequence of processes that are performed to answer a research question or synthesize new material.
Task schema access policies [2026.7.W.1]
Access policies are being introduced for workflow tasks schemas. Previously task schemas did not support access policies, so organization members always inherited CREATE access and organization admins always inherited ADMIN access. This release gives organization admins the capability to introduce READ, NONE access policies for task schemas such that only users who need access to certain task schemas can get access to those schemas. Flowchart delete buttons use unified styling [2026.7.W.2]
The edge and node delete buttons in the workflow flowchart editor now share unified styling, giving the flowchart editing surface a more consistent look.

Submitting a text box inside new Requests is now supported.
Benchling Automation
Benchling Automation connects your lab instruments to your scientific record, runs analysis automatically, and feeds every result directly into the next decision, on whatever hardware you already run.
Reference lines on Analysis charts [2026.7.BA.1]
Analysis charts now support horizontal and vertical reference lines that extend across the full plot axis and can optionally appear in the chart legend.
Enable connect file testing [2026.7.BA.2]
Users can now test whether instrument files are compatible with ASM-based Connections. On the Metadata tab of a Connection’s details page, users can upload a file and see whether the file is compatible with that Connection’s instrument Connector.
[Beta] Open LA release of Editable and Publishable Automation templates [2026.7.BA.3]
Automation templates can now be created, edited, and published directly. No more building a throwaway analysis just to save it as a template. Users can create a template as a Draft from Template Collections or global create, edit it in place using the same UI as an analysis, safely configure output steps, check where the template can be applied, and publish it when it's ready.

Schemas
Schemas are the structural foundation for how your information is categorized in Benchling. They are categories created specifically for your tenant that can represent materials, data, storage methods, and tasks.
Tag schema audit log distinguishes item type changes [2026.7.SCH.1]
Tag schema audit entries now record changes to the more general item type field instead of the immutable folder item type, and system fieldset audit entries are scoped to non-exclusive fieldsets so that type changes are no longer obscured as generic system fieldset updates.
Removed V3 API scalar schema fields top-level endpoints [2026.7.SCH.2]
The V3 API no longer exposes top-level list endpoints for scalar field definitions. Scalar field definitions are now managed only through the schema they belong to.
Entity schema clone includes name template [2026.7.SCH.3]
Duplicating an entity schema now also duplicates the name template and container name template data to the new schema.
Dropdowns and fieldsets can be archived when referenced by entity link fields [2026.7.SCH.4]
Archive blockers for dropdowns and fieldsets now match entity schema behavior, allowing them to be archived even when entity link fields are configured to use them.
V3 schema create and update inputs accept name field [2026.7.SCH.5]
The V3 schema create and update input types now accept a name field, matching the field exposed on the read side. The prior display_name field is deprecated and retained for backward compatibility.
V3 API supports removing a fieldset from an entity schema [2026.7.SCH.6]
A new beta V3 remove-fieldset endpoint is now available on all entity schema types. It mirrrors the behavior of the existing apply-fieldset endpoint and the equivalent UI action.
Top-level DropdownOption V3 endpoints deprecated [2026.7.SCH.7]
The top-level DropdownOption read endpoints in the V3 API were deprecated in favor of accessing dropdown options through their parent Dropdown.
isParent input for fieldset link field definitions on V3 API [2026.7.SCH.8]
V3 API callers can now set isParent on fieldset link schema field definitions when creating or updating fields on a schema, matching the parent-link behavior already supported in the UI.
V3 API supports RNA part-link field definitions [2026.7.SCH.9]
The V3 API now supports creating or updating RNA part link field definitions on RNA sequence schemas.

To create a seamless Benchling experience, our platform must be consistent, compliant and predictable. The Application Core provides the central capabilities to create a smoother user experience.
Upgraded user profile page in Tenant Admin Console [2026.7.AC.1]
The user profile page in the Tenant Admin Console now consolidates user information and actions in one place. Admins can inline-edit user details, manage account status, view org/team/role membership, and review credentials including API keys and warehouse logins. Read more about this update here.
Add button to load more data in activity log [2026.7.AC.2]
This release adds a button to load more data in the user activity log report and increases the default loading size from 50 to 100 rows.
V3 audit log rate limits and API documentation updated [2026.7.AC.3]
The V3 audit log API now uses updated rate limit tiers shared across the list and export endpoints, and the documentation clarifies pagination defaults and the objectId anyOf 10-ID cap.

The GET /entries V3 endpoint is now available at stable, giving API consumers a supported path for reading entries alongside their review metadata.
BioProcess
Our BioProcess offering helps with process development studies, including non-In Vivo workflows. It includes tools for tracking, managing, and analyzing experiments like process development studies, recipes, and studies.
Legacy flowchart fields deprecated on procedure domain graph type [2026.7.BP.1]
The legacy flowchart fields on the Procedure domain graph type are now marked as deprecated in the Benchling GraphQL API, guiding integrations toward the newer flowchart representation.
Unit operation details panel in Process Development Study visualization [2026.7.BP.2]
Click on unit operations in the Process Development Study visualization panel and see details on that specific unit operation. Details include: a link to the Worksheet, parameter/material/equipment values with color-coding showing when a confirmed or measured value differs from the planned value.
Study schemas now support fieldset link fields [2026.7.BP.3]
You can now link to fieldsets as well as schema categories on Study schemas.
This feature is not on by default, it is enabled by admins.
Prefill Studies field when creating a Workflow Task or Request from a Bioprocess Worksheet [2026.7.BP.4]
Creating a request or workflow task from a table in a worksheet now prefills the Studies field on the create modal with the worksheet's study. Users can add or remove studies in the modal before submitting.
Recipe run list on Process Development studies is now sortable [2026.7.BP.5]
Users can now sort based on creation date, with newest or oldest at the top.
PipeBio
Benchling's cloud-based bioinformatics software for antibody/peptide screening & drug development. Conduct BCR, TCR, VHH, scFv, or peptide sequence analysis and integrate your workflows with Benchling's core platform.

Users can now download completed export files directly from the Jobs History sidebar.

Benchling distributed a redesigned workflow runner and workflow creation dialog, providing an updated interface for building and running workflows.

Users can now export alignment views as PNG images at 1x, 2x, or 3x resolution across tables, viewers, and reports.
