Benchling AI
Benchling’s artificial intelligence agents and features.
AI provider selection toggle updates [2025.8.AI.1]
This change removes the AI provider selection toggle from the AI settings tab of the tenant admin console for most customers. If you've already selected AWS Bedrock as your only provider, this setting is not changed and the toggle remains. This change supports our ability to select the right AI models for each feature we're developing, given the growing landscape of AI models with differentiated capabilities. Please reach out to Benchling Support if you have questions regarding this change.
Notebook
Benchling Notebook helps users log their experiments, create protocols, and capture results against their samples.
Enhanced Review History [2025.8.N.2]
Enhanced Review Records is an opt-in feature that improves the formatting and metadata of review exports across entries, worksheets, and custom studies. Review history is now separated from scientific content, and for customers using e-signatures, the exports clearly indicate when a formal signature took place.
To enable this feature, contact a Benchling representative.
Improved Autosave Status Messages in Notebook Editor [2025.8.N.4]
We've updated the messaging that appears when Notebook saves are taking longer than expected, making it more clear and safer for users.
Benchling now flags when formula data is evaluated live compared to being displayed on a stored snapshot. [2025.8.N.5]
When viewing old entry versions, if there is no snapshot to the evaluation, we will evaluate the formulas live. This uses the latest version of formulas which could be different from the time the version was created. We flag this with a banner now.
Allow pasting a link onto text in an Entry to create a link [2025.8.N.6]
When one selects text within a Notebook Entry, they can now paste a URL and Benchling will transform the text into a link to that URL instead of replacing the text with the URL.
Benchling now allows preventing reverts on a Notebook Entry beyond Structured Table submissions [2025.8.N.7]
Reverting an Entry beyond a table submission does not undo the table submission. This means there can be context missing from that reverted Entry explaining how changes were made to other Benchling items, requiring looking through the version history of the Entry to find that context. To overcome this, there was previously only an opt-in setting to block revisions entirely.
Now, customers can also choose to prevent reverting beyond any table submissions. With this enabled, Entry authors can still revert back to a previous version of their Entry up until a table is submitted, reverting to a version beyond that table submission is blocked. Viewing the Entry at those earlier versions is possible, but the option to revert will be disabled.
Small Molecule
The molecule entity in Registry helps users model and interact with chemical compounds throughout the platform, enabling users to draw, visualize, store, and search chemical structures.
RDKit upgrade [2025.8.SM.1]
The RDKit, the chemistry toolkit that powers our molecule entity, was upgraded to the latest version. This upgrade enables import and rendering of richer molecular representations.
In Vivo
Manage in vivo studies with modern software designed for data capture, collaboration, and insights.
Filter backfill errors [2025.8.IV.1]
Click on the error notification message to apply a filter to the backfill events list to display only failed backfill events.
Updated Day of Nadir Calculation [2025.8.IV.2]
The calculations used to generate the Mean body weight change at nadir and Day of Nadir in study analysis summary tables have been revised to use percentage change instead of absolute change.
Max animals per cage is now 15 [2025.8.IV.3]
Previously the maximum capacity of a cage was ten animals, this has been increased to 15.
Glossary Updates: Field Validation for Animals & Samples [2025.8.IV.4]
In the Manage team section under Metadata, admins have a new experience when managing the metadata glossary, Particularly in the Animals and Samples tabs. New updates allow you to mark sample metadata fields as either required or optional. You can also set the Animal Date of Birth field as optional, removing the need for users to enter a DoB during animal registration if it's unknown.
These settings improve data quality and consistency across your studies by ensuring critical data is captured at the point of entry.
Workflows
Workflows are a sequence of processes that are performed to answer a research question or synthesize new material.
Disabling condition mapping [2025.8.W.1]
Conditional mapping is now disabled for new flowcharts. Existing flowcharts that use conditional mapping will continue to function, but new flowcharts will not have this option available. Routers provide a more powerful and flexible alternative for conditional task creation and are the recommended approach going forward.
Insights
Insights enables users to query, visualize, and share high quality, structured data that resides in Benchling.
Improvements to analysis templates with steps that reorder columns [2025.8.IN.1]
Previously, Analysis Templates with reorder column steps would fail if applied to an input table that had additional columns not seen when the analysis template was created. Now, a Reorder Columns step will simply reorder the columns intended and leave any previously unseen columns after the expected (and now resorted) columns at the right side of the table.
Benchling Connect
Benchling Connect, formerly Lab Automation, enables seamless integration of Benchling to liquid handlers, plate readers, imaging instruments, and more.
Allow users to set folder, location, timezone, or skip rows options before processing files in Connect runs. [2025.8.BC.1]
New options have been added for run configuration with connections enabled, allowing users to set key options before processing file imported via a connection:
* Folder - Define where items created from the run should be stored if no default folder is set in the run schema.
* Location - Specify where inventory items should be created if no default location is set in the run schema.
* Timezone - Choose a timezone if fields require it and no default is defined in the run schema.
* Skip rows with errors - Required when file chunking is enabled.
Update Allotropy to 0.1.102 [2025.8.BC.2]
Benchling's integration with Allotropy has been upgraded to version 0.1.102. See the Changelog for details
Schemas
Schemas are the structural foundation for how your information is categorized in Benchling.
New entity types available in Fieldset configuration [2025.8.SCH.1]
Users can create or edit a Fieldset and constrain it to particular entity types. We have added new entity types. The new entity types are oligo conjugates, oligo duplexes, and equipment.
Application Core
To create a seamless Benchling experience, our platform must be consistent, compliant and predictable.
Removed requirement that a user has to be an org admin in addition to a Tenant admin to import config migrations [2025.8.AC.1]
Config migration export is possible for all tenant admins. Previously, Config migration import required a user to be both a tenant admin and org admin. Benchling removed the import requirement to be an org admin to align the import and export experiences.
Improved Config migration history description inputs to preserve newlines and indentations [2025.8.AC.2]
Now when adding Config migration history descriptions, formatting is maintained to preserve newlines and indentations.
BioProcess
Our Bioprocess offering helps with process development studies, including non-In Vivo workflows.
New filters for the Procedure Method Execution Instance (PMEI) list API endpoint [2025.8.BP.1]
1: Allows users to filter PMEIs (ie Unit Operations) based on their Template Method ID (IE the ID of the unit operation from the Recipe template). 2: Allows users to filter PMEIs based on their condition-replicate. API users can use these filters in combination to aid in getting parameter values for a specific condition of a unit operation. This is specific to the V3 API.
Recorded at and comment fields on Parameter tables now support single inputs [2025.8.BP.2]
The Recorded At, Added At, Comment, and Container Used fields on Parameter Tables are now hoisted as single inputs
Removed review related columns from the Worksheet warehouse table [2025.8.BP.3]
Review related columns from Worksheet warehouse tables are now moved to the review tables in the warehouse.
Developer Platform
Our developer platform is fundamental to centralizing and standardizing all your R&D data. Benchling’s APIs and Events are built to match the flexibility and speed of modern life science R&D.

Improved add-to-benchling tool to support recursive Benchling schemas [2025.8.PB.1]
Improve the add-to-benchling tool to support Benching schemas which are recursive. Previously the tool would crash and fail to load the settings page in these cases.
Improve developability tool to include default background datasets for all accounts [2025.8.PB.2]
Now 2x background datasets are provided that can be used together with the developability tool. These background datasets enable users to see where developability predictions place their sequences relative to these background datasets. It enables you to answer questions like "are the predicted cdr length, psh score, ppc score, pnc score, sfvcsp score for sequences in my analysis within an expected range, when compared to these background datasets. More information can be found here.
