Notebook
Benchling Notebook helps users log their experiments, create protocols, and capture results against their samples.
Structured Table Styling Restrictions [2025.4.N.1]
Removed the formula and styling options bar from structured tables outside the Notebook to prevent applying styling where it would not be saved.
Visual Indicators for Results Table Updates [2025.4.N.2]
Results tables now display a visual indicator in the UI when they receive updates via the API.
Expanded Review Data in Get Entry v2 (beta) API [2025.4.N.3]
The Get Entry v2 (beta) Capillary API now includes Review Change status, comment history, Review Snapshot status, and a download URL.
Sorting in Structured Tables from Fill-In Templates [2025.4.N.4]
Structured tables in entries created from fill-in templates now support sorting by column values.
Version History Panel Improvements [2025.4.N.5]
A new version history panel is now available across entries, templates, worksheets, and sub-templates, improving visual consistency across the product.
Small Molecule
The molecule entity in Registry helps users model and interact with chemical compounds throughout the platform, enabling users to draw, visualize, store, and search chemical structures.
Primer Visualization Bug Fix [2025.4.SM.1]
Fixed an issue where primers with overhangs were incorrectly rendered when the browser window was resized.
Transcription Links in GenBank Exports [2025.4.SM.2]
Transcription links are now exported as misc_RNA features in GenBank files.
Ellipsized Names for Oligo Conjugate Backbones [2025.4.SM.3]
Backbone names that are too long when used in oligo conjugates or duplexes now display with ellipses to preserve layout and readability.
Error Message for Invalid Oligo Duplex Offset [2025.4.SM.4]
Users now see a clear error message when entering an invalid offset in the create modal for oligo duplexes.
Registry and Inventory
The Registry and Inventory combine to form an extremely powerful solution for life sciences R&D samples. The Registry can be used to model and log any biological entities while the Inventory provides an interactive digital window into the physical storage system of your lab.
Plate Designs in Notebook Entries [2025.4.RI.1]
Plan plate layouts ahead of experiments and re-use the basic design across multiple experiments
The plate design tool allows you to plan and edit plate layouts ahead of experiments, use the plan to create a new plate object and plate record after you complete the experiment, and re-use the design for similar assays. This allows you to enhance your team's operational efficiency by reducing setup time and serving as a starting point to allow bulk plate design.
Audit Log Export for Results Tab [2025.4.RI.2]
An audit log export button has been added to the results tab for entities and containers, making it easier to access and export audit records.
Workflows
Workflows are a sequence of processes that are performed to answer a research question or synthesize new material. For example, synthesizing a new set of proteins from supernatants, or improving the transduction process.
Requests Portal[2025.4.W.1]
Manage requests at scale with a centralized portal that enables your team to discover, initiate, and track requests
The new Request portal is persona based where admins can create request templates using task schemas to enable a structured, error-resistant intake process; requestors can submit requests, track their status, and access outputs; and fufillers can execute the Request with full context. This update provides a tailored experience for requestors while preserving and adding context for the fulfillers and simplifies how users request reagent retrieval, testing, or preparation.
Insights
Insights encompassing Benchling Analysis and Dashboards enables users to query, visualize, analyze, and share high quality, structured data that resides in Benchling.
Analysis Template Config Migration [2025.4.IN.1]
You can now use config migration to transfer analysis templates between tenants.
Embed Analysis Outputs in Worksheets [2025.4.IN.2]
For customers with Bioprocess, users can now embed outputs from Benchling Analysis directly into worksheets.
Benchling Connect
Benchling Connect, formerly Lab Automation, enables seamless integration of Benchling to liquid handlers, plate readers, imaging instruments, and more.
Automated File Creation and File Object Support [2025.4.BC.1]
Automatically create searchable, permissioned, metadata-enriched File objects through Connect
Files imported through Benchling Connect are now automatically created as searchable, permissioned File objects. This speeds up your work because the automatic reaction of files: eliminates manual uploads, allows you to search, organize, and access Files easily, and allows you to manage File access with Benchling’s permission model. Files can then be used as traceable inputs in runs, datasets, analyses, and Results,
Plate Reader Connector Updates [2025.4.BC.2]
Added support for custom information metadata in GROUP transforms for the Plate Reader instrument class.
Public API for Instrument Data Conversion [2025.4.BC.3]
New public API endpoints allow raw instrument data files to be converted to ASM and CSV formats.

Benchling Local Gateways v1.1.2 [2025.4.BC.4]
Users can now download version 1.1.2 of the Local Gateway via the Setup Gateway option. This release includes a compatibility testing script to help diagnose issues with local installations on Windows environments.
Allotropy Format Updates [2025.4.BC.5]
Benchling Connect now supports the following Allotropy format versions for enhanced data compatibility:v0.1.85 – Changelog
Schemas
Schemas are the structural foundation for how your information is categorized in Benchling. They are categories created specifically for your tenant that can represent materials, data, storage methods, and tasks.
Computed Fields on Fieldsets [2025.4.SCH.1]
Computed fields are now supported on fieldsets.
To add a computed field to a fieldset, follow the same process as for a schema. Like other fields, a computed field in a fieldset is not materialized until it is applied to a schema with data.
Currently, updating a computed field on a fieldset is not supported. As a workaround, delete the computed field from both the fieldset and any associated schemas, then recreate it.
Audit Event Suffixes for Linked Items and Dropdowns [2025.4.SCH.2]
Audit logs now include a <Linked Item> or <Dropdown> suffix when a value is removed from a linked item or dropdown field.
Previously, removals appeared as updates to "N/A", making them indistinguishable from actual value changes. The new suffixes clarify that the event represents a removal.
Application Core
To create a seamless Benchling experience, our platform must be consistent, compliant and predictable. The Application Core provides the central capabilities platform to create a smoother user experience.
User List Filter by Tenant Role [2025.4.AC.1]
The Tenant Admin Console user list can now be filtered by tenant-scoped roles, making it easier to locate tenant admins and user admins.
Warehouse Upgrade to PostgreSQL 14.15 [2025.4.AC.2]
The Warehouse backend has been upgraded to PostgreSQL 14.15, providing improved performance and enhanced security.
Bioprocess
Our Bioprocess offering helps with process development studies, including non-In Vivo workflows. It includes tools for tracking, managing, and analyzing experiments like process development studies, recipes, and studies.
Naming Templates for Recipe Runs [2025.4.BP.1]
You can now configure naming templates for Recipe and Assay Runs. Naming templates help scientists generate concise, human-readable names and unique IDs (e.g., "Sample ABC" or "S-100100") for easier execution, review, and analysis of experimental work.
Support for Recipes in Configuration Migration [2025.4.BP.2]
Recipes can now be migrated across tenants using Configuration Migration. Previously a manual process, all unit operations and steps are now automatically transferable.
