We are very excited by the interest and feedback we have already gotten with our release of the initial Units features. Please find the answers to many commonly asked questions below.
Is there a standard set of units and unit types that are pre-populated on a tenant?
Yes! Please see our Configuration Help Article.
Are unit symbols case sensitive?
Yes! This allows you to configure nm for nanometers and nM for nanomolar.
How do I add a unit as an option in Inventory table dropdowns?
Tenant admins can designate within the Unit Dictionary whether specific Unit Types should appear in the Quantity or Concentration columns in inventory tables. Use the the checkboxes that appear after expanding the "Inventory-specific settings" for a given Unit Type to make the selection.
Why can't I add units to my tenant's Unit Dictionary?
Only the Tenant Admin can add units and unit types. Please check that you have adequate permissions to manage your tenant's unit dictionary.
Why can't I configure units on a schema field?
Please check that you have adequate schema permissions to configure your schema.
How do I add the units that were previously available in the Inventory tables back to my tenant?
As part of the units rollout, unused units per tenant were cleaned up from the list of quantities and concentrations that were previously available. Many of those units are available as preset units that can be added via the Unit Dictionary Wizard by your tenant admin.
The gif below demonstrates how preset units (ex. cell counts like "x10^7 cells" or others) can be added to the list of available inventory quantity or concentrations in the unit dictionary.
My inventory table is erroring due to missing Concentrations or Quantity units. What do I do?
Please see the "How do I add the units that were available in the Inventory tables back to my tenant?" question above.
I'm getting the error "Could not find Unit for "{symbol}". What do I do?
If you see a red toast that says "Could not find Unit for "{symbol}" with a specific unit noted, please ask your tenant admin to add the unit to the Unit Dictionary.
Can I migrate my units with Config Migration?
Unfortunately, units are not currently supported with the tenant configuration migration tool, because they are a tenant-wide configuration and are not stored at the organization level. This also means that units which are configured on schema fields will not be migrated along with the fields since they are dependent on the Unit Dictionary.
When migrating schemas that have units configured on the schema fields, the following error message will display after validating the import:
[Schema Name] can be imported, but will either have references removed or require changes:
The [unit name] unit associated with the [schema field name] field will not be migrated. Please set the unit manually after populating the tenant Unit Dictionary.
The import will not be blocked, however fields that had units configured will need be reconfigured manually. Tables with newly configured units may need to be re-inserted into Templates.
