Analysis Templates in Benchling Insights allow you to standardize and automate your data analysis processes. By saving your analysis configurations as templates, you can quickly apply the same set of transformations and views to new or existing datasets, enhancing efficiency and consistency.

Note: Regressions, Interpolations, and Analysis Templates require an additional purchase. For access to these features, please contact your Benchling account manager.

Saving an Analysis as a Template

To create a new Analysis Template, you must first set up all the desired transformations and views within an existing Analysis. Once everything is configured, you can then save that combination of actions as an Analysis Template.

Follow these steps to save your configured analysis as a template:

  1. Complete Your Analysis Configuration:
    • First, ensure that all desired transformations and views are fully configured within your analysis.

  2. Save as a Template:
    • Navigate to the top right corner of your Analysis page and click on the “...” (ellipsis) menu.
    • Select the “Save as analysis template” option.

  1. Name and Organize Your Template:
    • Enter a descriptive name for your template.
    • Choose a Template Collection where you want to save the template. This will make it easy to find and manage your templates later.
      • Note: Analysis Templates are stored in the sample Template Collections as Recipe Templates and Notebook Templates; no need to create a separate Template Collection for your Analyses

  1. Define Table Types:
    • For each starting table in your analysis, specify whether it’s Variable or Static:
      • Variable: Allows you to select new data each time the template is applied, ideal for scenarios where data changes frequently.
      • Static: Uses the original data tables from the template, which is useful for consistent data structures like plate maps or acceptance criteria limits.

Applying an Analysis Template

Once you have your Analysis Template saved, you can apply it to new or existing datasets:

  1. Create or Open a New Analysis:
    • Begin by setting up a new analysis and adding the data you wish to analyze.
      • Note: if you apply an Analysis Template to the automatically generated Bioprocess data tables for a given Recipe Template, the tables will be predictably structured with the same table types and column names every time.
      • If you apply an Analysis Template to different data tables, you'll need to map the new data to the template's inputs. The data doesn't have to match exactly, but column mapping is required. If necessary columns are missing, the template won't run.

  1. Apply the Template:
    • Click the “...” menu on the Analysis page and select “Apply Analysis Template” from the dropdown options.

  1. Select and Map the Template:
    • Choose the saved Analysis Template you wish to apply. For example, you might select a template named “My new template.”
    • If your template includes Variable tables, you’ll be prompted to map your current data to these tables. Carefully map the columns as needed.
    • Click “Save” to finalize your mapping selections, then select “Apply Template” to execute the template on your data.

  1. Review the Results:
    • After applying the template, the output will display both your original tables and the new tables and child views generated by the template’s transformations.
    • You can further adjust or refine the analysis as needed.
