This new feature in In Vivo allows you to apply treatments to multiple animals simultaneously, simplifying and speeding up the data capture process. Whether you are dosing animals in bulk or entering historical data, bulk dosing is designed to save time and reduce the number of steps involved.

With bulk dosing, you can record treatment details across large groups of animals, eliminating the need for repetitive individual entries, making it easier to ensure accurate and efficient data collection.

Configuration

  1. Navigate to the Doses Page: In your study, go to the “Doses” page where you have write access. Click the button for “Record Dose” to begin.

  1. Select Treatments: Choose the treatments you’ll be administering. You can select as many treatments as required. All animals assigned to groups needing at least one of these treatments will be listed. If an animal is assigned to more than one treatment, all relevant treatments will be administered at once. If only one of the treatments is to be administered, select that single treatment and repeat the process as necessary.

  1. Select Animals: After selecting treatments, confirm the animals that will receive the selected treatments. You can select all animals by clicking the checkbox at the top left of the table, or use filters to narrow down the selection. Deceased animals and those without recorded body weights (if required for dose calculations) will be automatically excluded.

Note: Ordering this animal table by clicking on the column headers will define the order the doses will be displayed in the next step.

  1. Body Weight Dependency: For treatments requiring dose calculations based on body weight, the most recent weight recorded will be used. Any animals without a weight record will be excluded from dosing. The system will not allow new weights to be recorded during this process.
  2. Set Dosing Time and Comments: Confirm the date and time for dosing and add any necessary comments. Although the date and time can be changed, the body weight used for dose calculations will not update based on the new date.
  3. Save: Once all details are correct, click "Save" to confirm the entries. If any errors occur, users with write access can delete doses using the bulk action tool.

If any entries are incorrect, you can use the bulk action tool to delete the doses in one step.

Permissions and Access

The doses page is available for all users with access to the study however, the option to record Bulk dosing is available only to users with write access to the study. The feature must be enabled by an administrator. Once enabled, users can record doses and streamline their data capture process.

Managing Historical Doses

Doses cannot be edited once created. However, if they were administered in error, users with write access to the study can use the bulk action tool to delete them from the doses table.

Caveats and Limitations

  • Fixed Treatment Settings: Treatment details like concentration or volume cannot be adjusted in dosing once they’ve been set in the study.
  • Body Weight: Bulk dosing calculates volumes based on the most recent recorded body weight. Ensure body weights are updated before administering the dose.
  • No Real-Time Data Capture: Bulk dosing is not recommended for real-time data capture, as leaving the table without saving will result in loss of progress.
  • Submission Limit: You can submit up to 1000 doses in a single bulk entry.

No "Record New Body Weight" Option: If you need to record new body weights during dosing, you must use the workflow tool instead of bulk dosing.
