Why does my Insights dashboard chart show some of the IDs as names and others as API IDs?

Issue

User creates a chart (bar chart, line chart, etc.) from an Insights dashboard and set their axes on the ID columns. However, some IDs appear as API IDs while others appear as names.

Cause

For performance reasons, Benchling will only replace the first 500 unique API IDs with names. The block will show the following warning:

Resolution steps

Consider setting other columns of UI-friendly names (name, registry ID, etc.) as the axes.

If you still wish to use the ID columns as the axes, check the following:

  • Are there <500 legend values?
  • Does the query (if viewed as a Table) include other API ID/Chip columns that aren’t needed for the chart?

If yes to both, you can also consider removing the columns that include other API IDs but are not needed for the chart axes from the query
