You can use collapsible sections in notebook entries to quickly navigate and organize content within long entries. This article explains how to create, edit, and delete sections.
Note: To enable this feature contact Benchling Support.
Create a section
To create a collapsible section:
- In an entry, click the Insert drop-down menu in the toolbar and select Section.
- In the pop-up window, enter the section name and section date.
- [Optional] Check Don't use section name/date to prevent the section name and/or date from displaying in the section label.
- Click Insert.
Tip: Enter /section in the body of the entry to insert a new section instead of selecting it from the drop-down menu in the toolbar.
To add content to a section, click below the section label and insert your content in the space below. If there is no space below the label, click the expansion arrow on the left side of the section label.
When you create a section, it is automatically expanded. If you expand and collapse sections, they will remain expanded or collapsed even after navigating away from the page. This is user-specific and doesn't save this state to the entry or template.
Customize a section label color
To customize the color of a section label, click the palette icon on the right side of the label and select a color.
Delete a section
Deleting a section only deletes the section label, not the content in the section. The content shifts up to nest under the section above it. The first section, created when the entry was created, can't be deleted.
To delete a section, click the gear icon, then click Delete section.
