Using Analysis with JMP

You can use an integration to exchange data between Benchling and JMP. Each user who wishes to use the integration needs the following:

  • License for JMP 18 with JMP locally installed on their computer
  • Benchling JMP Add-in

Installation

  1. Download the latest copy of the JMP add-in.
  2. From JMP, click File, then select Open.
  3. Select the downloaded file.
  4. Click Install in the pop-up window.

Note: The Benchling JMP Add-in will automatically check for updates. If a newer version of the add-in is found, it will prompt you update the add-in to the latest version.

Uninstall a previous version

To uninstall a previous version of the Benchling JMP add-in:

  1. Click View, then select Add-ins.
  2. Select Benchling Analyses.
  3. Click Unregister.
  4. Confirm the prompts.

Using in Analysis

Before importing or exporting data, you first need to:

  1. Create an analysis.
  2. Create an analysis table.
  3. Ensure the JMP add-in is installed.

Push the dataset to JMP

In your Benchling analysis:

  1. Click the + icon next to Analysis Steps in the sidebar to add a new step to the analysis.
  2. Select Import/export.
  3. Copy the analysis step key.

Note: The analysis step key expires 10 minutes after it's generated.

In JMP:

  1. From the top menu, click Add-ins. Under Benchling, select Pull data from Analysis.
  2. Paste the analysis step key and click OK.

Write JMP data to Benchling

In JMP:

  1. From the top menu, click Add-ins. Under Benchling, select Write data to Analysis.
  2. Paste the analysis step key from Benchling and click OK.
  3. Select the data that you would like to write back to Benchling. Multiple items can be selected by using Shift or Ctrl/CMD.
    • Any open JMP data table will appear in the selection menu.
    • Any open JMP report will appear in the selection menu.

In your Benchling analysis, view the selected data:

  • If you select a data table, Benchling returns a .jmp file with the data table and a Benchling analysis table.
  • If you select a report, Benchling returns a .JRP file with the report and an .html file.

Limitations

There are some limitations per object to the volume of data that can be moved into Benchling from JMP. See the table below.
