You will need a label printer that supports Zebra Programming Language (ZPL). Any printer under the “ZPL” or “ZPL and EPL” listings from Zebra Benchling can support. However, there are also printers made by other manufacturers that support ZPL.

Please use the following resources to help locate the specific Zebra-brand printer that your lab will need:

Zebra Printer Brochure: Zebra Printer Brochure.pdf

  • Desktop Printers: compact, simple to operate, reliable and cost effective

  • Industrial printers: ideal for a wide variety of high- to mid-volume industrial applications in manufacturing, transportation, logistics, government, retail, healthcare

  • Mobile printers: provide portable printing for a variety of barcode needs

  • Card printers: print secure ids, gift cards, financial cards, personnel badges with single-sided or double-sided plastic card printing.

  • RFID printers

To be compatible with Benchling's label printing capabilities, the printer purchased must fit the following criteria:

  • ZPL compatible

  • (Recommended) Ethernet connection

    • USB is supported as an alternative, but will not be scalable

  • Uses thermal transfer

Recommended Printer: Any printer that support Zebra's "Link-OS" is acceptable. However, our recommendation is the ZD420 series. This printer series can support many connectivity options in the long term.

Ultimately, you should choose the Zebra printer that best suits your lab and workflow.
