How External Data works

Linking to an External Data source allows for file browsing directly in Benchling. Any files can be drag and dropped directly into a notebook entry. This creates a copy of the file in that entry. The file is copied and embedded, instead of being linked to the External Data source, for proper compliance and to embed data when entries are reviewed. The copied file will not be automatically updated if the file is updated in the External Data system.

Connecting to an External Data system

  1. To connect to an external data system, navigate to External Data on the sidebar: 

2. Click Add Account:

3. Choose the account to connect:

4. Log in to your account in the pop-up browser window.

Disconnecting an External Data system

  1. Under External Data, click the Settings icon and choose Unlink:
