Insert a result table

In your Notebook entry or workflow entry, click Insert -> Result Table -> New.

If you are creating an entry from a Workflow Template, appropriate result tables may already be present.

Search or choose a result schema.

Add samples to result tables individually

Choose “Add New Row” and search for and select an entity or batch in the window. Result tables are designated to capture data against either entities or batches.

Import samples and results into the result table

Create a spreadsheet whose columns match the result table headers, including a Sample column. You can do this either in an external spreadsheet editor (e.g. Excel) or utilize a regular Benchling table.

In your Benchling result table, click Import into result table.

Copy/paste in raw text including the headers or upload a spreadsheet.

Click Next and confirm column matching. Please correct any errors.

After data is validated, select Import in order to add new rows to your result tables, along with any relevant assay data.

Note: This lets Benchling know which data should be recorded against which sample. The most common values used for matching are sample name/ID or plate well.

Update results in the result table

Create a spreadsheet whose columns match the result table headers (including a sample column).

Choose Update from spreadsheet.

In the Import into result table window, copy/paste in your raw text or upload your spreadsheet. Then, click Next and choose the appropriate fields to match with your columns. Afterwards, click Import to update values in the result table.

Note: This lets Benchling know which data should be recorded against which sample. The most common values used for matching are sample name/ID or plate well.

Adding custom columns

To add a one-off field, right-click on any column header. Choose Add Column to the left or right.

After, Right-click on the new column and choose Rename.

Note: The custom column is marked by a STAR (*) to indicate that it is not included in the formal result schema. To add the column to your table, please contact your Registry administrator .

View results

Results from result tables will appear on the results tab in the Registry (except for custom columns).
